I met with the former MEP for the German Pirate Party Julia Reda to discuss her experience from the previous term and upcoming challenges in the EP. The meeting took place at an in formal gathering with people interested in digital policies.

I participated in a debate on an open letter providing Policy Recommendations on Free and Open Source Software. I shared my views on the institutional support for the FOSS, its role in the much-discussed concept of European digital sovereignty, and ways to increase the cooperation of policy-makers with FOSS communities

The meeting was an opportunity to hear the Commissioner-designate on her European vision, her willingness to increase collaboration and support large majorities in and between EU institutions, and to exchange our views on digitization. It was also an opportunity to let her elaborate on her possible future collaboration with EVP Margrethe Vestager. I have shared my conception of cybersecurity and we also touched on her receiving money from a US think tank and why she had to return money to the Parliament spent on employing her APAs.

I had the opportunity to meet VP designate Margrethe Vestager (along with ECON and ITRE coordinators of Greens/EFA Sven Giegold and Ville Niinistö) and discuss several topics related to the new Commission and the portfolio that she would be responsible for, most importantly:

* the new Commission structure with the Vice-Presidents and the division of work among several Commissioners,
* the role of the EU when it comes to regulation regulation of digital or tech giants,
* opportunities and ways to increase investments into modern and environmentally friendly technologies and transformation of the industry and economy,
* the relation of legal immigration and modernization of the industry and economy.

Zúčastnili jsme se neformálního setkání s členy české a slovenské komunity v "bruselské bublině". Akce nesla název Od Tatier k Schumanu. V rámci večera jsme měli možnost neformálně diskutovat nejen s pracovníky evropských institucí, ale i s krajany působících v dalších mezinárodních organizacích, v diplomacii, v neziskových organizacích, v médiích a v soukromém sektoru.

I ran into a representative of Transparency International at a presentation of OLAF 2018 report. We discussed the conflict of interest of Andrej Babiš, as well as his Čapí hnízdo prosecution. We also talked about transparency of the European Parliament and the European institutions, as well as I shortly presented my plan on transparency and digitization in my capacity as Vice-President of the European Parliament.

I joined for a lunch with other Members of the European Parliament’s Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee. An informal discussion touched on the topics around upcoming activities of the Committee and priorities of the Finnish presidency in the Council.

S Markétou Gregorovou jsme přijali pozvání velvyslankyně Indie v České republice na velvyslanectví v Praze. Hovořili jsme o změně indické ústavy, která měla za následek změnu statutu oblastí Džamu a Kašmír.

Setkal jsem se s členem TOP09, Jaroslavem Řezníkem, abychom spolu poobědvali. Proběhla pouze neformální diskuze.

I was contacted by Diego Naranjo from European Digital Rights in order to ask a parliamentary question regarding the implementation of article 17(7) of the Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market.
